DALLINGER Reinhard, University of Innsbruck, Austria

Title: Complementary Roles of Metallothioneins and Phytochelatins in Cd Detoxification of Animals? Facts and Questions

Biography:

Reinhard Dallinger is a zoologist and served as a professor of ecotoxicology at the University of Innsbruck, where he led the research group of ecotoxicology and molecular physiology. After his retirement, he is still active as a project leader and a member of the Center of Molecular Biosciences Innsbruck (CMBI). Since his PhD thesis, he has been dedicated to exploring ecotoxicological and toxicological effects of metals on fish and invertebrates. He became involved in the study of snail metallothioneins during a long-standing cooperation with Prof. Jeremias H. R. Kägi (Univ. of Zürich, Switzerland), and is actually interested in mechanisms and effects of metal handling, tolerance and inactivation in gastropods (snails), and in evolution of metal-selective mollusk metallothioneins. He serves as an editor and associate editor of several journals in the fields of zoology, environmental chemistry and biochemistry.
